"Pet
Celebration Day"
Seven years
running! "Pet Celebration Day was HOT but GREAT!
Once again pet lovers (and more pets than ever, ALL on leashes!)
explored the grounds at Zeeb Pet Health Center. Everyone
celebrated the relationship pets have with their people. This year
the weather was a bit more of a challenge as it was much hotter
than in the past. It is for this reason we are going to change to a
cooler time of year for 2006. So mark your calendar for Sunday
September 17th 1-4 p.m. for the 8th annual event!
This
year's guests included:
A two story "Flea" welcomed guests while a two story "Tick"
watched
over pets and their people as they ate hotdogs, gummy bears and
animal crackers. These inflatable monsters were on loan from Bayer
the maker of Advantage flea control for cats and Advantix flea and tick
control for dogs.
Hill's
pet foods (the makers of Science Diet and many of our
prescription diets) allowed us to have Amanda Chin available to
answer questions about how to meet the nutritional needs of pets.
"Three
Shears For Pets" stylist Courtney Adams helped owners
understand how they might better care for their own pet's bathing
and grooming needs.
The
Obedience Training Club of Greater Lansing, one of the area's
top obedience schools, held demonstrations throughout the day.
The "Stuffed Pet Vet", Diane Baldus repaired a number of "injured"
stuffed animals.
Alpaca's
(known for their fur production) were on hand courtesy of
the Ruhf Family.
Grand
Rapids based "Paws for a Cause" a non-profit organization
that supplies dogs to people with disabilities helped everyone
understand the contribution dogs make to those with a disability.
Representatives
from Invisible Fence gave dog owners information
about how they can keep pets in their own yard.
Once
again, Grandma Heyd passed out tons of cotton candy.

Pet
Blood Drive
On Saturday
October 12 the Zeeb Pet Health Center in conjunction with Midwest Animal
Blood Services, a Stockbridge based Animal Blood Bank, held a Pet Blood
Drive. "This event was a huge success", says Dr. Ann Hale, the
blood bank's director. Of the 57 dogs to be tested only six were disqualified.
One had lost weight and was now under the 50 lb minimum weight requirement.
Another had been previously treated for heartworm disease. Two dogs were
just a tad too old (they were 8 years old and need to be between 1 and
7). And three dogs had just plain old-fashioned poor veins. In all 51
dogs were screened. Read

Veterinary
Economics has bestowed yet another extremely prestigious
honor upon us by nominating our facility for a "Practice
of Excellence"
award. Since its creation there have been only 46 recipients out of a
field that includes ALL of the veterinary offices in the United States
and Canada! An individual cannot apply for this award rather they must
be nominated. The criterion used for judging this award takes into
account many aspects of operating a veterinary office. Obviously
patient care including both inpatient and outpatient services, hospital
census, financial activities, the short and long term business plan, and
many more parameters. Suffice it to say they look at EVERYTHING! None
the less, what an honor just to be considered for this award.
Doctors
and Staff of the Zeeb Pet Health Center
are very active in our
community. We not only provide exceptional health care for our patients
but also believe that we need to share our philosophy with others
throughout mid-Michigan.
Other points of interest:
Five
staff members completed a day long seminar entitled "It's
What's Up
Front That Counts" taught by Mr. Mark Opperman. Mr. Opperman
is a
nationally known veterinary practice consultant that specializes in
customer service. All of the participants came away with a better
understanding of what "Superior Customer Service" means and
how it can
be applied right here at the Zeeb Pet Health Center. The rest of the
staff is eager to put into action many of the suggestions that were made
by Mr. Opperman. The bottom line is what was good is going to get
better.
Look
for Dr. Thimmig's weekly newspaper article in the DeWitt, Bath
Review on pet health topics. This labor of love has become a wonderful
way for pet owners to become informed about common ailments affecting
their furry friends. The topics are timely and the information is
priceless. P.S. Dr. Thimmig, don't quit your day job.
